Diving into a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and enthusiasts have found plenty of engaging independent titles. But, one catches the eye for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this old-school styled side-scrolling game includes a protagonist that is literally a turd striving to make its way to a commode. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a jump control. In numerous levels, you'll face mini-bosses and visit a market to purchase customizations for your dung hero.

Plan your actions precisely, since one error means starting over. Jump off air pockets to launch yourself upward, traverse disappearing ledges, and touch triggers to unlock hidden paths. Collect UN-KOINS to purchase more difficult stages as things gets crazy.

Visually, the game shows off neon level designs and catchy music score. Its minimalist graphics of moving abstract forms may remind gamers of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although tough to name other games where you are a piece of feces, video games have long incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can craft explosives from protagonist excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. Naturally, such content appears extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy concept, Unko Technica has already received impressive accolades, including taking top honors at a major publisher's game competition in 2023. The demo is available currently on Steam, with the complete version set to arrive on PC in the fall.
