In “It’s a Deal”, a flashback reveals that fan-favorite character Alastor the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his mortal days. Being aware he was destined for Hell, he established communication with the realm beyond beforehand to secure a strong position there. The charismatic leader, who leads the cannibal faction in Hell, vowed Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in return for his eternal spirit.

This raises an important query: In what way is Rosie powerful enough to elevate Alastor over all other Demonic Sinners?

“The Rosie and Alastor deal is the initial building block in a larger narrative that involves so much, leading into season 3,” the showrunner states. “Clearly that is a perfect question: How is she so strong? The solution might be many things, but the revelation is in season 3. I'm very excited for people to see it.”

It is uncertain the duration viewers will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s third season. The studios have green-lit the third and fourth seasons, but the creator often notes that animated production is a time-consuming endeavor, and later seasons are undated. Still, she states holding off on specific information is an important part of maintaining the second season's focus in the right places.

“The difficulty of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or stories that have enigmas, is providing the audience sufficient clues to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that as we go, and letting that be satisfying,” she comments. “So I'm very excited.”

Mysteries Resolved in The Next Season

The creator assures that the upcoming season will address the queries followers have been posing, such as why Rosie ordered Alastor to vanish for seven years, which diminished his influence in Hell.

“The entire seven-year span, and the pacts these humans are making, and all that — it's feeding into a bigger narrative,” she reveals.

Meanwhile, the origin story episode offers another glimpse into what the core cast of Sinner Demons looked like as mortals, the second after seeing another character's historical human form in the second episode. The creator explains that a lot of thought went into the visual creation of these forms.

“The mortal forms of these personas carry great significance,” she notes. “They range from looking quite distinct from their infernal version to seeming almost identical. With the first character, the initial design we see, there was a little bit of a debate within the team between going with something that represents the character, as opposed to selecting an option that's very time-period accurate. We leaned toward making a design that just seemed like it was him.”

She mentions the primary controversy over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘No one really had long hair like that in that historical period.’ But simultaneously, we think the outline is extremely crucial, and we also just felt he appeared attractive. We were like, ‘This seems correct.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we create the human versions of these characters […] it's such a fun thing to explore and determine. I'm excited for people to see more of the appearances of the human versions.”

New episodes of Hazbin Hotel the second season are released on midweek on Prime Video.
