Patriots Equal Best Victory Run Since Brady Era with Win Over New York Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five scores during the current campaign
New England equaled their top unbeaten stretch from the Tom Brady era as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in the NFL
First-year standout Henderson shone brightly with three TDs as the New England squad notched an eighth consecutive victory for the initial occasion since iconic QB Tom Brady's closing campaign with the team in the 2019 season
Quarterback Maye accumulated 281 passing yards and a TD, completing 25 out of 34 attempts
The triumph increases the New England's advantage at the top of the AFC East as they advanced to nine victories against two losses, with the Jets at the foot after dropping to two victories and eight defeats
The opposing team had scored first at Gillette Stadium with QB Fields rushing for a five-yard TD to conclude the New York's first possession
But the home team answered in the second period as the rookie ran in two seven-yard TDs before the running back grabbed a reception from Maye at the back of the endzone halfway into the third quarter to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a key occasion for him stepping up, and it's been great for him to keep gaining experience," Maye said of the rookie. "He wants to be excellent."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie toward the end of the third quarter to close the gap for the visitors but Andy Borregales converted a two kicks in the fourth quarter as the Patriots wrapped up the victory
